Corruption in Canadian Organizations ‘Disturbingly High’

Canadian Mining

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – One in five Canadian executives believe that bribery and corrupt practices happen widely in the country, advisory firm Ernst & Young’s (EY’s) latest ‘Global Fraud Survey’ had found.

“That’s disturbingly high,” EY partner and Canadian fraud investigation and dispute services leader Mike Savage said.

He noted that corruption interfered with fair competition for business, and to overcome that, companies need to create a culture where ethical behaviour is at the core of their operations – not just at home in Canada, but also at their overseas operations… Read Full Article

Helping Canadian Mining Companies Destroy the Earth

Crimes Against Humanity

No matter how much Canadians wish we were simply known for hockey or our comedians, the mining industry increasingly represents Canada abroad. With nearly 60 percent of the world’s mining companies listed on this country’s stock exchanges, Canadian corporations operate thousands of projects outside this country and many of these mines have displaced communities, destroyed ecosystems and provoked violence. Pick almost any country in the Global South — from Papua New Guinea to Ghana, Ecuador and the Philippines — and you will find a Canadian-run mine that has caused environmental devastation or been the scene of violent confrontations.

Are Canadian Mining Companies Getting Away with Murder?

While our lying politicians and media tell us we are fighting for democracy in Libya and Afghanistan, we find out that really, Canadian Corporations are terrorists.
This program is a shocking eye-opener.

Grahame Russell of Rights Action joins Face to Face for a 30 minute interview about the health, environmental and other heinous human rights violations caused by Canadian mining companies in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador — and about the impunity with which they operate.

Canada’s Marlin Gold Mining Has a Fishy History

VANCOUVER — Marlin Gold Mining (TSXV: MLN; US-OTC: MLNGF) just built a gold mine in Mexico’s Sinaloa state for US$23 million. That is intriguing, but on closer inspection, the intrigue deepens.

Consider these points. Marlin is a publicly traded company but a Connecticut-based fund called Wexford Capital owns 80% of its outstanding shares, of which there are 680 million.

Most of the shares stem from two rights offerings backstopped by Wexford that raised the capital to build the La Trinidad open-pit, heap-leach mine 42 km southeast of the town of Rosario, something the fund had to do after it failed to take Marlin private.

Now, with La Trinidad in operation, Marlin has set up a subsidiary company called Sailfish and given it the right to buy a quarter of the mine’s gold at below the spot price. In contrast with most streaming deals, Sailfish paid nothing for the stream… Read Full Article

Interesting that Marlin Gold Mining Ltd. of Canada has such big plans for our community here in Pearce, Arizona – yet they haven’t bothered to meet with our community to discuss any of this.
